After losing out in the last two races, Red Bull are hoping to bring updates to the RB18 in time for the French Grand Prix which kicks off on the 22nd July according to Auto Moto und Sport.
With losses at Silverstone and the Red Bull Ring in Austria, the team knows they’ll need to pull something out of the bag to keep the dominance they showed at the beginning of the championship.
With Ferrari just 56 points behind Red Bull in the 2022 Constructor Standings, all eyes are on Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. Masashi Yamamoto, Honda F1 boss and consultant at Red Bull, was quick to point out that despite their speed, Ferrari’s reliability left a lot to be desired. In a recent interview he was reported as saying:
“Ferrari was indeed very strong, but if you look at the blown engine of Carlos Sainz, I think HRC (Honda Racing Corporation) and Red Bull Powertrains is still better if we look at the overall performance and reliability.”
Yamamoto also has high hopes for France, “I think France is more in Red Bull’s favour, so we should go bang there,” he said.
Red Bull chief Christian Horner believes that there’s someone else to be keeping an eye out for in France, however – Mercedes.
“We’ll expect them to be quick in [Paul] Ricard,” Horner said. “They’re showing flashes of being there or thereabouts.
“The last two races have been pretty decent for them and there’s been no sign I think of any porpoising at all, so they seem to be slowly bringing themselves back into the game.”
